Internal Medicine is a very broad field with great challenges. It has been the mother of all specialties in internal diseases, but time, technology, and the need for high professionalism in different fields made different specialties of internal diseases separate from it, which led to a wrinkle in this field on a global scale.

It was again time and necessity that made it possible for this specialty to regain life and to have an important role today in a global perspective since man is not a set of organs but functions as a unique organism, where damage to an organ or system is reflected also in other organs or systems, where systemic diseases simultaneously affect many organs and systems, and precisely these are the cases where an internist is necessary.

Even in our country, internal diseases were born as Internal Medicine, with pioneers like Fejzi Hoxha or Hysni Rusi, and like everywhere they were divided into specialties.

It was the need of the hour that in 2004, also under the suggestion of the French Public Assistance, the Medical Service was re-established in QSUT under the leadership of Prof. Mihal Tase.

Internal medicine doctors are experts in complex cases, and critical thinkers, who succeed in peace and excel in the most challenging and dynamic environments, taking care of patients throughout their health journey. The Albanian Association of Internal Medicine was established in April 2023.

The Albanian Association is a scientific association that aims to promote the development, research, and education of internists in Albania. The various activities organized by the association are on this website. The association's scientific journal will be published on PubMed in May: Journal of Internal Medicine.

The Internal Medicine Association has joined forces with other associations such as those of nephrology, endocrinology, allergology, rheumatology, and dermatology. Therefore, this association can be considered the voice of internists throughout Albania.

The Internal Medicine Association will strengthen cooperation with similar associations outside Albania.
